Seven police personnel, including the officer-in-charge (OC), of Jashore's Chaugachha Police Station, were injured in an attack by a group of locals while attempting to arrest an accused last night.

Among the injured, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Lavlu was admitted to Chaugachha Upazila Health Complex with a serious head injury while the others received primary treatment.

ASI Lavlu said a team led by Sub-Inspectors Mehedi Hasan Maruf and Uttam went to Makapur to arrest Siam, an accused in a case.

During the operation, a group of localsattempted to obstruct the arrest and tried to snatch the accused from police custody.

Upon receiving information, OC Anwar Hossain along with his team rushed to the scene when the group attacked them, injuring seven officers, including the OC.

Medical Officer Anwarul Abedin confirmed that seven injured police personnel were treated at the health complex, with one admitted due to the severity of his injuries.

OC Anwar said that Siam is now in police custody.

He added that legal action will be taken against those involved in the assault.
