At least 10 people were injured and around 30 houses vandalised during a clash between two rival groups at Rangardia village in Faridpur's Saltha upazila today.

Locals said the dispute began between two brothers, Ujjal Mollah and Faruk Mollah, over the distribution of meat following a recent aqiqah (Islamic ritual) ceremony.

Around 9:00am today, supporters of both sides engaged in a heated argument over the issue, which escalated into a violent clash.

A chase and counter-chase ensued, and both groups hurled brick chips at each other, leaving at least 10 people injured.

During the violence, at least 30 houses belonging to both parties were reportedly vandalised and looted. The incident triggered panic in the village, prompting many residents to flee the area.

However, the correspondent could not reach Ujjal and Faruk for comments in this regard.

Confirming the incident, Saltha Police Station Officer-in-Charge Ataur Rahman said several people were injured and at least 30 houses were damaged in the clash.

On information, police and army personnel rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

Additional police have been deployed to prevent deterioration of law and order. No complaints were filed in connection with the incident as of 8:00pm, the OC added.
