Tourist drowns in Bay at Kuakata

A tourist drowned while bathing in the Bay of Bengal at Kuakata Zero Point in Patuakhali today.

The deceased was identified as Rajesh Kumar Pal, 40, son of Sharot Kumar Pal, of Puthia upazila in Rajshahi district.

According to police and local sources, Rajesh arrived in Kuakata yesterday with his cousin and brother-in-law, travelling from Rajshahi.

Around 11:00am today, the trio went to bathe in the sea when Rajesh was swept away by strong waves and went missing.

Hearing their screams, locals rushed to the spot, rescued Rajesh, and took him to the upazila's Mohipur Health Centre, where doctor declared him dead.

Confirming the incident, Mohipur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Tariqul Islam said the body was recovered with the help of locals, and legal procedures are under way.
