A man was killed and three others were injured in a head-on collision between a bus and an auto-rickshaw on the Bagerhat-Pirojpur regional highway in Bagerhat early today.

The deceased was identified as Siyam Gazi, 20, of Teligati village under Morrelganj upazila.

The injured are Mojibur Gazi, 50, Rashid Khan, 75, and Bappi, 30.

They are currently undergoing treatment at the 250-bed Bagerhat District Hospital.

According to Sub-Inspector Md Tomez Uddin of the Moheshpur police outpost, a Pirojpur Sadar bound auto-rickshaw collided head-on with a passenger bus coming from the opposite direction upon reaching the Baliadanga area of the highway.

"All four sustained serious injuries and were rushed to the hospital, where Siyam was later declared dead," the SI said.

He added that a stationary truck parked along the roadside had obstructed visibility for both the bus and the auto-rickshaw. As the vehicles attempted to overtake the truck from opposite directions, they collided.

Police are investigating the incident.
