Oil-laden train derails in Srimangal

A freight train carrying oil derailed at the Srimangal Railway Station yard in Moulvibazar this afternoon, disrupting rail communication on the Sylhet–Chattogram route for several hours.

Acting Station Master Shakhawat Hossain said the engine of the Sylhet-bound train from Chattogram veered off the track on line no. 3 inside the station around 1:30pm.

Train services on the Sylhet–Chattogram route were temporarily suspended following the incident but resumed later in the day, he added.

Initial investigations suggest the derailment may have been caused by a mechanical fault in the engine's compartment, he said.

No casualties or explosions were reported, said the station master.

The derailed engine remains at the station yard, he added.
