Man crushed to death by train in Dinajpur

A man was crushed to death by the Rajshahi-bound Banglabandha Express last afternoon while he was crossing the railway tracks near the Birampur Railway Station in Dinajpur's Birampur upazila.

The deceased is Jalal Uddin, 45, of Hijlur village in Sylhet's Beanibazar upazila.

He had been living at his in-laws' house in Chokoi village under Birampur upazila of the district.

Fakhrul Islam, officer-in-charge of Parbatipur Railway Police Station, told The Daily Star over phone that the accident occurred around 1:20pm on the Parbatipur-Joypurhat rail route about quarter kilometre away in the southern side of Birampur Railway Station.

Jalal was reportedly crossing the track without paying attention when the train hit him, killing him on the spot.

An unnatural death case was filed with the police station in this connection, the OC added.
