Lightning strikes kill two in N’ganj, Netrokona

At least two people died after being struck by lightning in Narayanganj and Netrokona yesterday.

In Narayanganj, a man was killed as lightning struck him in Araihazar upazila.

The deceased -- identified as Mokarram Molla, 45, of the upazila -- was collecting mangoes under a tree next to his house during rain.

He was taken to Araihazar Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead.

Mokarram's body has been handed over to family for burial, said Khondokar Nasir Uddin, officer-in-charge of Araihazar Police Station.

In Netrokona, a farmer died by lightning in Sadar upazila.

The deceased -- Rabbi Mia from Satiya village in the upazila -- was harvesting paddy from his cropland during the incident occurred around 11:00am.

He was taken to Netrokona Modern Sadar Hospital where the doctors declared him dead, said Netrokona Sadar OC Kazi Shah Newaz.

Besides, two cows also died from lightning strikes yesterday in Chinakuri Beel area under Durgapur upazila of Netrokona, said sources.
