3 killed, 3 injured in Bogura road accident

At least three people were killed and three others injured when a truck hit a battery-run rickshaw-van in Bogura's Dupchanchia upazila tonight.

The deceased are Md Mozahar, 60, and Shafiqul Islam, 45, both residents of Baniyadighi village, and Shahidul Islam, 60, of Bara Akhira village in Adamdighi upazila, said police.

The victims were workers of a tile factory, said firefighters.

Moinul Islam, team leader of Dupchanchia Fire Service and Civil Defence, told The Daily Star, "Five workers were returning home from a tile factory in Dupchanchia in a battery-run rickshaw-van.

"Around 8:30pm, a truck loaded with cows, coming from the opposite direction [Naogaon to Bogura], hit the van at the Mail Bus Stand in Dupchanchia town, killing three people on the spot."

Locals rescued the other three, including the van driver, and sent them to the upazila health complex.

Faridul Islam, officer-in-charge of Dupchanchia Police Station, said, "Two of the injured have been sent to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital. The bodies have been kept at the Dupchanchia Upazila Health Complex."

The police officer said they are trying to seize the truck.
