2 cousins killed, another injured in motorcycle accident in Dinajpur

Two motorcyclists were killed after being run over by a heavy vehicle in Kaharol upazila of Dinajpur last night while returning from their cousin's wedding ceremony.

Another passenger of the motorcycle was critically injured and is currently undergoing treatment at Dinajpur Medical College Hospital.

The accident occurred around 9:00pm on the Birganj-Pirganj road in the Joyananda Burir Bazar area, said Kaharol Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ruhul Amin.

The deceased were identified as Ariful Islam, 28, and Saidur Rahman, 36.

The two were maternal cousins.

Another pillion rider, Firojul Islam, 50, a resident of Saidpur village, was injured in the same accident.

He was also the matchmaker for the wedding they attended.

Quoting locals, OC Ruhul said the accident occurred when a heavy vehicle hit and ran over the motorcycle.

"The three men were returning home from a wedding ceremony in the Kabirajhat area of Birganj upazila of the district."

No one could identify the vehicle responsible for the accident, the OC added, saying locals found the three victims lying critically injured on the road and immediately informed police and firefighters.

Two of the victims died on the spot.

Firojul was first taken to Birganj Upazila Health Complex and later transferred to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital after his condition deteriorated.

He is currently undergoing treatment there.

Efforts are under way to identify the vehicle involved, the OC said.

An unnatural death case was filed with the police station in this connection, he added.
