9 districts get new DCs

The government yesterday reshuffled the civil administration through transfers and postings of some officials both at the top administrative and field levels.
Deputy commissioners (DC) of nine districts were replaced by officers who had been working at different ministries and institutions.
Abu Hena Morshed Zaman, who was a director at the Prime Minister's Office, was made the DC of Faridpur, Deputy Director of Rajuk SM Alam DC of Kishoreganj, Deputy Secretary of the public administration ministry Md Sohel Imam Khan DC of Noakhali, Director of Bangladesh Television Kazi Ashraf Uddin DC of Pabna, private secretary to ACC secretary GSM Jafrullah DC of Madaripur, Regional Executive Officer of Dhaka South City Corporation Md Abul Kalam Azad DC of Netrakona, Deputy Secretary of the home ministry Md Zahirul Islam Rohel DC of Gaibandha, Deputy Director of BPATC, Savar Shamimul Haque Siddique DC of Pirojpur and Deputy Secretary of Economic Relations Division Gaffar Khan was made DC of Narail, according to a gazette notification.
The officials who worked as DCs in the nine districts got postings at different ministries.
Sources in the secretariat said the reshuffle was made apparently to re-arrange the civil bureaucracy ahead of the next parliamentary election. Public administration ministry officials, however, said the officers were withdrawn for new postings as they were recently promoted to the rank of joint secretary.
The post of DC, who is in charge of the local administration, becomes important during elections as they are appointed as returning officer for the district.
Also yesterday, the government gave postings to three additional secretaries who were attached with the public administration ministry as officer on special duty (OSD).
Rafiqul Islam was posted at the environment of forest ministry, Kamal Krishna Bhattachrya at the railways ministry, while AKM Yahiya Chowdhury was made administrator at the Waqf office in Dhaka.
Besides, Mosharraf Hossain, additional secretary of the fishers and livestock ministry, was made OSD while MA Hannan, additional secretary of the environment and forest ministry, was appointed to National Institute of Population Research and Training as its director general.
The government also gave postings to six OSD joint secretaries and made two joint secretaries OSD yesterday. Six other joint secretaries were also transferred, according to separate notifications.
The home ministry promoted two police officers to the rank of additional inspector general of police (AIGP).
Mokhlesur Rahman, chief of the Criminal Investigation Department and Benazir Ahmed, commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, were promoted to the AIGP rank, said a press release of the police headquarters.
Sources in the administration said more such postings and transfers were in the offing by the end of this month.
