7 Jamaat-Shibir men held in Ctg

Seven Jamaat-Shibir men were arrested for their involvement in subversive activities from two upazilas in Chittagong yesterday.
Police said Jahangir, 32, and his father Nurul Islam, 55, were arrested from East Bhujpur village in Fatikchhari upazila around 2:00am.
Meanwhile, Md Alamgir, 35, Nazim Uddin, 25, Nurul Alam, 35, Jamal Uddin, 48, and Md Younus, 55, were arrested from Boro Hatia village in Lohagara upazila around 2:30am.

Hamiduzzaman's exhibition till Nov 12

The ongoing solo sculpture exhibition of renowned artist Prof Hamiduzzaman Khan has been extended till November 12.
A total of 49 artworks, including acrylic paints on canvas, are being showcased at the exhibition titled "Stones", at house-20, road-16, sector-4, Uttara in the capital. The event is being organised by Galleri Kaya and sponsored by AND Group.

Girl hit by train dies in capital

A four-year-old girl died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital yesterday morning, a day after she and two of her family members were hit by a train in the capital's Kuril area.
Tamima Akhter died of head injury. Her mother Rima Khatun, 26, a worker of Mohammadi Ltd garment factory, died on the spot while Rima's mother is undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Prisoner dies in Kashimpur Jail

An accused in a murder case died at Kashimpur central jail in Gazipur yesterday.
Alamgir Hossain, 40, of Dhaka, was rushed to the jail hospital after he felt chest pain around 6:00am. As his condition deteriorated, he was transferred to Gazipur Sadar Hospital around 6:40am where doctors declared him dead.
Jail super said, Alamgir was sent to Kashimpur jail on April 25, this year after he was arrested in a murder case filed with Nababganj Police Station.

BAU admission test on Nov 8

The admission test of first year honours programme at Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) in Mymensingh under 2014-15 academic session will be held tomorrow.
BAU authorities published the seat plan and list of the eligible candidates for the test.

Workshop on biotechnology and genetic engineering begins tomorrow

To introduce a common curriculum in Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering department at different universities; Jahangirnagar University, Khulna University and University of Leeds, UK; will organise a programme at JU Zahir Raihan auditorium tomorrow.
Funded by British Council, the programme includes a workshop titled “Biotechnology and genetic engineering at tertiary level in Bangladesh”, and a seminar on “Cellular, Molecular and Bio-nanotechnology.”
Leeds University professors Paul A Millner and Nicola Stonehouse and JU Vice-chancellor Farzana Islam will attend the programme.
