Feni Awami League (AL) leaders Joynal Hazari and Abdul Quader Mirza, brother of central AL leader Obaidul Quader, were acquitted by a court here yesterday of charges of killing four BNP activists in Feni about eight years ago.
Judge Shafikul Karim of Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal (STT) relieved the two AL leaders from all the four cases filed in connection with the murder at Sonagazi upazila on August 12, 2001 as “the charges brought against them had no ground,” court sources said.
Following the murder of BNP activists, four separate cases were filed with Sonagazi Police Station.
The names of Hazari and Mirza appeared as prime accused in all the cases.
The hearing against other accused in the cases will be held on April 15.
