Eid is literally the best time for retailers and this does not exclude the music industry. In the wake of Eid-ul-Fitr, the music companies -- major and small -- try to release their best productions.
In celebration of the festival, fresh tunes find their way to the fun-filled family evenings, adda of close friends, namely tension-free holidays.
This Eid the audio market is offering a vast collection of Bangla songs of different genres. The albums that have already hit the market or are expected to be released soon are mostly of folk, rock, pop and remix songs.
G-Series and its sister concern Agniveena are releasing mostly rock and fusion pop albums. Their albums for this Eid include Tahsan's fourth solo Pathorer Golpokar, Chapter 2 (Fuad featuring Mila), Milon Mahmud's Charidikey Kolahol, Lina Taposhi's Monajaat (Islamic songs), Sumon featuring Anila, Topu's (of Yaatri) solo Meye, Hasan Shihabi's Doyamoy, band Vibe's debut album Chena Jogot, Dalchhut's Jochhna Bihar, Stoic Bliss' Kolponar Bairey and mixed albums Underground 2, Neon Aloy Swagotom, Utshorgo and Ke Ankey Onno Chhobi.
Soundtek has an array of pop and folk based solo albums. Soundtek's Eid releases include Khalid's Hridoy Bhangar, Biday by Bappa Majumder, Asif's solo and another joint venture with Sonia -- Mon Pobon er Nao, Abar Pothey Dekha -- a mixed album by Anjan Dutt, Bappa Majumder and S.I. Tutul, Polash's Rong Mohol and Shonge Niyo Amakey.
Sangeeta's albums are mainly folk compilations: S.I. Tutul's Proshno, Shanto and Momtaj's Koto Bhalobashi Tomaye, Shahid's Bondhur Bhalobasha, Monir Khan and Nasir's Amar Ki Dosh? and more.
Laser Vision is bringing out fusion pop albums. Its albums are Panjabiwala (Habib featuring Shireen), Balam's self-titled solo album, and a mixed album Bhalo Toh? Gaanchill Media Ltd is releasing albums by Close up 1 stars: Feriwala by Rashed, Lalon Konna by Beauty, and Boka (a collaboration of Prince Mahmud and Close up 1 finalists). Other major releases include Khoka O Hobey Buro by Biplob (of Prometheus) and Bari Siddiqui's Bhaber Deshey.
CMV has released rock star James' solo album Tufan.
Bengal Music Company Ltd has come up with <>iJhalmuri 1 and 2.
Bengal Foundation releases six CDs containing mostly ponchokobir gaan (songs of five poets). The new releases are Laisa Ahmed Lisa's Chirodin Keno Pai Na and Tania Mannan's Ashim Gaaner Resh of Tagore songs, Nasima Shahin's Akashe Bhorer Tara of Nazrul songs, Jhuma Khondoker's Aji Nuton Rotone of songs of Atul Prasad, Rajanikant and DL Roy and two albums of adhunik gaan Saradin Tomai Bhebey and Hridoye Lekho Naam by Iffat Ara Dewan.
Diversity of the music offers something for everyone. The focus is on entertainment for all.
“We always look forward to Eid. I hope for best sales as we have some great music albums lined up,” said a salesman at a music outlet in Bashundhara City mall. Apart from new releases music outlets are also selling classics and old albums still in demand.
However, the issue of piracy continues to hound the music industry as the artistes and production houses are being deprived of their profits.
