Debapriya resigns as permanent representative to UN office

Dr Debapriya Bhattacharya, permanent representative of Bangladesh to the United Nations office in Geneva, has submitted his resignation letter to the foreign secretary recently.
"Recognising the privileges of the incoming elected government to choose its Permanent Representative in Geneva, I tender my resignation from my current post on moral and ethical grounds," Dr Debapriya said in the letter.
He, however, expressed his desire to continue his duties until the new government takes office and takes a decision about the post.
The present caretaker government appointed Dr Debapriya to this post on September 20 last year.
He had been a long-time executive director of the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) -- a leading think tank in South Asia -- before being appointed as the permanent representative to the United Nations office.
