Shahida Akhter Rita is the only woman among 21 candidates in five parliamentary seats in Jamalpur district.
Rita is contesting in Jamalpur-1 (Dewanganj-Bakshiganj) constituency with a four-party alliance ticket.
Rita is a permanent resident of Chikajani village under Chikajani union of Dewanganj upazila. She is a voter in the area. She has a house in Gulshan, Dhaka. Alongside her husband she is a businesswoman in Dhaka and is also involved in politics. She is a central member of Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal.
Though she is not much known in the area as a political area she got four party ticket as the former BNP lawmaker of the area M Rashiduzzaman Millat has been convicted to 18 years in jail for corruption and is now on the run.
As a rebel candidate of the Grand Alliance is also in the race Rita's position in the field level is getting better.
