Battle of 2 young leaders charm of Jamalpur-3

Among the five constituencies in Jamalpur most talked about is the fight between two youth leaders in Jamalpur-3 seat where Awami Jubo League general secretary Mirza Azam will face young BNP leader former president of Bangladesh Chhatra Union Mostafizur Rahman Babul.
Mirza Azam won the seat for three consecutive terms. Babul lost to Mirza Azam in 2001 election with a margin of 13,000 votes.
In 2001 Babul failed to get BNP ticket but as four party candidate Shafiqul Islam Khoka stood aside at the last moment BNP supporters cast their vote for Babul. The district Chhatra Union leaders and workers also did not raise any objection about Babul as he was not running with BNP's election symbol "Sheaf of Paddy" But this time the district Chhatra Union leaders and workers have taken stand against their one time leader.
Though the publicity of both the candidates is more intense and visible in this constituency compared to other seats in the district former MP Mirza Azam is a little ahead thanks to the development works he did as three time lawmaker.
Mostafizur Rahman Babul's supporters think development works in the area during the last alliance government is a plus point for the BNP leader. Babul also enjoys regional support in his own upazila Melandah.
BNP leaders are raising allegations of corruption and terrorism against Azam. Four party alliance candidate Mostafizur Rahman Babul said, people of Melandah-Madarganj want change in favour of development and peace.
Regarding this allegations Grand Alliance candidate Mirza Azam said, filing cases was a conspiracy against him. Expressing his firm hope about victory Azam said, people would cast their vote for development.
Mirza Azam in his affidavit mentioned that he would spend Tk 15 lakh on election. He said his expense would come from agriculture and business. Mostafizur Rahman Babul has prepared Tk 10 lakh election budget. Babul said he would meet Tk 7 lakh from his won fund and borrow Tk three lakh from relatives.
