Hafiz Ibrahim, Moni among 32 barred in Barisal division
Returning officers in five districts in Barisal division cancelled nomination papers of 32 candidates in 18 constituencies on various grounds on Thursday, the last day of scrutiny, sources said.
Barisal
Nomination papers of 10 candidates in Barisal district including that of former BNP lawmaker and state minister Shah Md Abul Hossain were cancelled. Hossain submitted papers for contesting from Barisal-4 constituency.
Jhalakati
Nomination papers of Rafiqul Islam Zamal, four party alliance nominated candidate and Air Commodore Monjurul Islam, JP (Ershad) candidate for Jhakati-1 were rejected due to faults in the nomination papers. There was no other BNP candidate except Rafiqul for the seat.
Nomination papers of JP (Ershad)'s Enamul Huq Rubel, Bikalpadhara's Abul Kalam, and Islami Andolon candidate Mainul Islam in Jhalakati-1 seat were cancelled for loan defaulting.
Pirojpur
Nomination papers of Engineer Abdul Jabbar, listed by the Sector Commanders Forum, as a war criminal, who wanted to contest for Pirojpur-3 constituency on a JP ticket, JP presidium member and AL led grand alliance candidate for Pirojpur-1 Mustafa Zamal Haider, former BNP whip and independent candidate Shahidul Huq Jamal for Pirojpur-1 and 2, have been cancelled as they are loan defaulters.
Bhola
Nomination paper of former BNP lawmaker Hafiz Ibrahim who is jail now and wanted to contest from Bhola-2 has been rejected as he is a convict in criminal cases.
Candidacy of Siddiqur Rahman Manna, rebel BNP and independent candidate for Bhola-3, has been cancelled as he is a loan defaulter.
Barguna
Nomination paper of former BNP lawmaker and independent candidate Nurul Islam Moni who is now jail and wanted to participate in the JS polls from Barguna-2 has been rejected as he is a convict in criminal case.
