On the first death anniversary of singer-activist-journalist Sanjeeb Chowdhury, his band-mates (of Dolchhut) honoured his memories through releasing a music album titled "Tukro Kotha: A tribute to Sanjeeb Chowdhury." The album was unveiled at Coffee House, Elephant Road on November 19.
The album features a song written by Sanjeeb. Founder member of Dalchhut and noted singer Bappa Majumdar has composed and sang the number.
Arranged jointly by Dalchhut and production house G-Series, the programme also included reminiscence on the life and works of Sanjeeb by his friends, colleagues and well-wishers.
"This is not a typical memorial programme. This obviously means more to us," said Bappa Majumdar.
Sanjeeb's widow, Shilpi Chowdhury, Khalid of G-Series, lyricist Russell and singer Shahed, among others, spoke at the programme.
At the programme Bappa also announced that an album titled "Kingbadanti," named after Sanjeeb's daughter, would be released on the late artiste's birthday (on December 25). The album will feature songs of Dalchhut and Souls. "'Kingbadanti' should have been released several months back but we couldn't finish all the work. However, I promise to Sanjeeb Chowdhury's fans that we will release the album on Sanjeeb Da's birthday," said Bappa.
Sanjeeb Chowdhury's untimely death, at the age of 45, last year has saddened music enthusiasts across the country. He along with Bappa formed the band Dalchhut in 1996. "Ahh," "Hridoypur," "Akash churi" and "Jochhna bihaar" are the four albums by Dalchhut so far, all of which featured Sanjeeb.
Sanjeeb's idealistic and meaningful lyrics and Bappa's apt compositions carved a niche for Dalchhut from the very beginning. Apart from their own songs, Dalchhut worked with renowned folk artistes, especially recording songs of Baul Shah Abdul Karim.
Sanjeeb was a student of journalism and worked for several dailies and little magazines.
