Five Jubo Dal activists were injured following a clash between two groups at district BNP office yesterday.
Of the injured, Rafiq Ckokdar, office secretary, and Shafikur Rahman Swapan, vice-president of Gounadi upazila Jubo Dal, were admitted to Barisal Sadar Hospital with serious injuries.
Witnesses and party sources said a meeting of Barisal (north) district Jubo Dal was called in at the BNP office on Aswanikumar Hall premises at noon to form a full-pledged committee and chalk out a programme of Iftar party.
At one stage, altercation developed between the followers of two rival local Jubo Dal leaders of Gournadi.
Rafiq protested forming of north district Jubo Dal committee with Kabir Uddin Ansari and Badiuzaman Mintu, followers of Akon Kuddus group, as president and secretary respectively.
Soon the altercation turned into a clash injuring five activists, ransacking office furniture and foiling the meeting.
The situation was however brought under control by the senior leaders.
Mentionable, Barisal south district and city Jubo Dal are also divided into two factions.
One faction is led by Majibor Rahman Sarwar, former BCC mayor and lawmaker now in custody, and Syed Moazem Hossain Alal, central Jubo Dal secretary and a former lawmaker.
Both the group arranged two separate Iftar parties in the city on Wednesday.
