A new satellite ground station of Bangladesh Space Research and Remote Sensing Organisation (Sparrso) was inaugurated on Monday, says an ISPR release.
Defence Secretary Kamrul Hasan inaugurated the station at a programme at the Sparrso auditorium in the city as the chief guest. Chinese Ambassador Zheng Qing Dian was present as special guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Kamrul Hasan said the Digital Video Broadcast via Satellite (DVB-S) system received through Asia-Pacific Space Cooperation Organisation (APSCO) would be very useful in conducting analytical and qualitative research using the real time images from FY-2C satellite of China.
Proper utilisation of the system can help mitigate the damage caused by disasters and avoid economic loss, he said.
