Media urged to facilitate safe migration of female workers

Participants at a training workshop have stressed the need for proactive role of media in facilitating the safe migration of female workers, says a press release.
They also suggested for more coverage of news concerning migration of female workers in different media.
The workshop was organised by the Management and Resources Development Initiative (MRDI) in association with the United Nations Development Fund for Women under a project titled 'Proactive Media in Safe Female Labour Migration' at a local hotel on Tuesday.
At the inaugural session, MRDI Manager K N M Hossainul Haque spoke about concepts and issues concerning labour migration.
He laid stress on journalists' clear conception of the issues and avoid confusion between female migration and trafficking in women.
In the following sessions, Khandaker Rezwanul Karim, programme manager of Manusher Jonno Foundation, discussed the importance of safe female labour migration for development, poverty reduction and women empowerment.
Syed Ishtiaque Reza, special correspondent of The Financial Express, laid emphasis on upholding ethics of journalism and human rights standards in writing news stories about female labour migration.
Hasibur Rahman, executive director of MRDI, gave the welcome address and moderated the programme attended by 21 journalists from different national and local dailies, news agencies and electronic media of Rajshahi division.
Earlier on 24 March, MRDI organised a view-exchange meeting of journalists, government officials and NGOs about increased cooperation among the different stakeholders in promoting safe female labour migration.
