Chambers and business communities of both Bangladesh and Malaysia can play a proactive and positive role to help Bangladeshi workers in Malaysia and could fix a minimum wage for them, Foreign Adviser Dr Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury yesterday said in Dhaka at the inaugural function of a three-day Malaysian trade fair 'Showcase Malaysia-2008'.
“Few Bangladeshi workers in Malaysia are in distress,” Iftekhar said, adding that the Malaysian government should take pro-active steps to resolve their problems.
Bangladesh-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI) organised the trade show at Dhaka Sheraton Hotel.
“We are not only concerned about remittance inflow by our expatriates but it is also our duty to look after their welfare,” the foreign adviser said.
Over 50 Malaysian companies from different sectors have put their products and services on display at the fair.
