Music aficionados in the Port City attended a solo musical performance by Shantanu Biswas at the premises of Shilpakala Academy here on Thursday evening. Shanito, a cultural organisation of Chittagong Medical College, organised the event.
With the title “Tobu Gaan Geye Jai”, the event featured songs written and composed by Shantanu himself. The artiste started with the song “Ami Tomader Jonyo”. His cover of “Ami Eka Etota Path Eshechhi” received a round of applause.
Shantanu, then, presented “Dupar Chhuye Bahoman Nodi” -- one of the most melodious numbers from his repertoire.
Among the other songs the artiste performed were: “Ekhane Amra Ka'jon Boshe Achhi”, a song on racial inequality in early 1900 USA; “Bashonto Shesh Hoye Gele, Pakhira Jabe Chole,” an ode to spring; “Nao Kachhe, Nao Durey”, inspired by French jazz; “Chirkutey Dekhi Chhoto Kore Lekha”, a reminiscence of his days at 'Charukala' (Faculty of Fine Arts, Dhaka University); and his tribute to Bob Dylan, “Ami Cholechhi Tomar Obhimukhe”.
Ishtiak Islam Khan, president of Shanito, said they usually organise cultural programmes on their campus at CMC. It is the first programme that they organised out of their campus, he said.
“At our previous programmes, we had invited renowned writers and poets including Humayun Ahmed, Sunil Gangopadhyay and Nirmalendu Goon,” he said, adding, “This time we have organised a solo musical programme featuring an artiste who keeps himself away from publicity.”
