Panel sits today to find ways to boost stocks
A panel formed by Dhaka Stock Exchange will sit for talks today to find ways to solve the problems surrounding an ailing stockmarket.
“The panel will try to find ways to pull the market out of the current bearish trend,†said an official of the Dhaka Stock Exchange. The recommendations will be sent to the regulators for implementation, the official added.
Earlier on January 29, the DSE formed an eight-member committee after a series of meetings with various stakeholders to solve the problems identified by the bourse.
The panel is headed by Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed, president of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry. The DSE chief coordinates among the committee members.
The other members of the committee are: Nurul Amin, president of Association of Bankers, Bangladesh, Sheikh Kabir Hossain, president of Bangladesh Insurance Association, Tapan Chowdhury, president of Bangladesh Association of Publicly Listed Companies, Mohammed A Hafiz, president of Bangladesh Merchant Bankers' Association, Md Fayekuzzaman, managing director of Investment Corporation of Bangladesh, and Wakeruzzaman, a director of the DSE.
Earlier, from a series of meetings with the market stakeholders, the Dhaka bourse identified certain causes behind the ongoing liquidity crisis and a low volume of share transaction in the stockmarket.
A lack of participation by investors and a large amount of stuck-up margin loans were just two major problems spotted by the DSE.
