The Barisal episode of the 6th International Children's Film Festival Bangladesh ended at Ashwini Kumar Hall in the city on Tuesday night, with a call to generate awareness in social issues.
The Barisal unit of Children's Film Society of Bangladesh (CFSB) organised the event in association with UNICEF. The event with the theme, “Future in Frames”, was open to all.
One of the main goals of the festival was to generate awareness in different social issues, as well as learning through wholesome entertainment, said Tanjilur Rahman Rafi, president of CFSB Barisal.
The objective of the festival was to “open up a new world of cinema for the children of Bangladesh and to give them an exposure to culture and traditions of different countries,” Rashed Imam, festival secretary of CFSB Barisal, said.
Largely children and students of different schools came to the festival, Rashed added.
The organisers termed the festival as a success. It attracted target groups of spectators and raised their awareness of social issues.
Md. Shohidul Alam, Deputy Commissioner Barisal, as chief guest inaugurated the festival last Saturday.
The festival at the Barisal venue, divided into four daily sessions, screened over 30 short, full length, feature and animated films produced by filmmakers from Argentina, Bangladesh, Finland, Germany, Indonesia, Iran, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, UK and USA.
“Amar Bondhu Rashed”, a fictional story based on the Liberation War written by the popular litterateur Dr. Muhammad Zafar Iqbal and directed by Morshedul Islam, was screened on the first day.
