Bangladeshi script awarded in Göteborg

Simon’s script awarded in the Göteborg fest.

Göteborg International Film Festival (GIFF) has awarded young filmmaker Kamar Ahmad Simon for his feature script “Shankhodhoni” (Silence of the Seashell). Simon and his colleague, producer Sara Afreen, are participating in the European Producers Workshop with the script as well.
Simon informed that 24 scripts have been invited in 2012 and “Shankhodhoni” is the only non-European script taking part in this prestigious summit of writers and producers.
“International recognition like this for a young filmmaker is no doubt a big push. I hope the local market will also widen its scope to support new talents,” said Simon.
Simon and Sara are currently busy with their feature-length documentary “Shunte Ki Pao!” (Are You Listening!). It was the first Bangladeshi film to be invited to the “Campus Studio”, at Berlinale 2012. It also won two consecutive grants from the documentary festival IDFA and was awarded in Asian Forum for Documentary held in Kolkata 2011.
GIFF, one of the leading film festivals in Europe, is always one step ahead in search of new talents. With an audience of 200000 a year, it is one of the largest festivals of its kind in the world.
