Shafiq Tuhin is one of the busiest and most popular lyricists and music composers of this time. Recently, he has taken on the avatar of a singer as well.
Tuhin experienced a radical change in his career in 2010 when he appeared as a singer. His solo album “Shopno Ebong Tumi” came out on Valentine's Day that year, and the track “Er Beshi Bhalobasha Jaye Na” from that album turned him into a singing star.
The song appealed to the youth in particular and from then on the song has been on the lips of the people from all over the country. Tuhin's current fame as a singer owes much to this song. He says, “Two lakh copies of the album were sold even in this age of piracy. This was really a great achievement for me.”
This hugely successful album was followed by Tuhin's next album, “Shafiq Tuhin.com”. His album “Paglami” came out in the current year. Elita, Kona and Nancy have sung with Tuhin in this album on three different duets.
However, Tuhin's initiation into the music world was as a lyricist. As a sign of his talent in lyric writing he had already received Citycell Channel i Music Awards, and BCSS Award.
Tuhin started writing lyrics back in 1995. His first written song was sung by Shakila Zafar. So far he has written about 1,000 songs and many of his songs have won the hearts of the listeners, as for example “Mon Re” sung by SI Tutul, “Tomar Dekha Naire” sung by James, “Chondrima Ekhono Tomaye Bhalobashi” by Hasan and “Bibekheena Tumio”.
In 2001, just after graduating from the University of Dhaka, Tuhin chose lyric writing as his career. That year he wrote all the songs for Ayub Bachchu's album “Mon Jole” which was a huge success. This cemented his position as a lyricist. Inspired by his initial success, he decided to stick to this profession for the rest of his life.
Tuhin has written songs for many luminary singers including Sabina Yasmin, Runa Laila, Shahnaz Rahmatullah, Tapan Chowdhury and Kumar Biswajit. His songs have also been sung by young artists like Nancy, Kona and Arfin Rumey.
He has written the song “Ekbar Boli Bar Bar Boli” rendered by Nancy and Arfin Rumey, which was ranked number one on the charts this year. Another superhit track is “Tumi Amar Na Bola Bhalobasha”. This song was also sung by Rumey.
Apart from lyric writing, Tuhin has composed tunes for Sabina Yasmin, Andrew Kishore, Bappa Majumder, Nancy and many others. Furthermore, he has worked as film music director.
Currently he is creating tunes for some of his self-written Bangla songs with the purpose of bringing out an album where the co-singers will be Rezwana Chowdhury Bonna and Ferdous Ara.
Shafiq Tuhin's versatility has been confirmed by his consecutive successes. While talking about his passion for music, Tuhin says, “I cannot think of anything else but music and I want to dedicate my whole life to it.”
