The red lanterns interspersed with blue fairy lights set up the ideal ambiance at the residence of the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, Taiyoung Cho, who was hosting a reception in honour of leading artists of Bangladesh on June 3.
Singers, painters, art collectors, lawmakers and other dignitaries attended the function that began with a welcome speech laced with humour by the Korean ambassador. The ambassador briefly narrated his stint in other countries, especially Italy. He recalled how artists were held in highest esteem in a country proud of its unrivaled culture.
Suraiya Begum, secretary in-charge, Ministry of Cultural Affairs, of Bangladesh, spoke about the friendly relations between the two countries. This was followed by a video presentation highlighting the vibrant culture of Korea. A beautiful solo recital by a Korean vocalist was followed by a piano performance. Next, the students of Dhaka International Music School and College, smartly turned up in black, performed Korean and Bangla songs to the warm applause of the guests.
Korea and Bangladesh have enjoyed excellent bilateral relations since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1973. The reception acknowledged that both countries have potentials to provide opportunities for people to enjoy and appreciate the universal world of art and culture.
