Police beat up journos at DU

Police assaulted two reporters Saturday night when they went to collect information from a police control room temporarily set up at the gate of Suhrawardy Udyan in front of TSC of Dhaka University.
The victims are Masum Billah, DU correspondent of Bangla daily Dainik Samakal, and Pintu Ranjan Orko, a feature writer of Dainik Kaler Kantho.
They were taken to DU medical centre.
Talking to The Daily Star, Masum Billah alleged, "Identifying ourselves as reporters, we tried to approach the police control room at 8:00 pm but police barred us and began beating us indiscriminately".
Showing several injury marks on his body, Masum, also a member of Dhaka University Journalists Association (Duja), said four constables of police-- Shahjahan, Sohanur, Sumit and an unknown -- kicked him down and beat him. Pintu Ranjan also came under attack when he tried to help Masum.
Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique, university vice-chancellor and chief adviser of Duja, condemned the incident and demanded exemplary punishment to the accused policemen.
Duja president Hasan Nitol said that they sent a letter to Krishna Pada Roy, deputy commissioner of Ramna Zone, demanding immediate measures against the accused.
Contacted, Krishna Pada Roy told The Daily Star that they have already identified the constables responsible and will take strict action against the culprits.
No case was filed.
