Ten-year-old Romela who was allegedly tortured by the wife of police sub-inspector (SI) Shahed recently made a statement against the couple at the Pabna chief judicial court yesterday.
Quoting the statement, SI Bijon Kumar of Chittagong DB police, told the Daily Star that Shahed's wife Sweety Begum used to burn Romela's entire body with hot Khuntsi and hit her with other kitchen tools over a period of six months due to some after of a trifling matter.
The couple did not give her any treatment, added Bijon, also investigation officer (IO) of the case.
Chief judicial magistrate Sayed Jahed Mansur recorded the statement, the IO said.
Romela, daughter of Riaz Uddin, of Kashinathpur Gotanga village of Pabna, was tortured by her employer Shahed and his wife Sweety at their house in Sitakunda, Chittagong recently.
The victim's father filed the case on November 11against the couple. Later, the SI was suspended. The warrant of arrest has been issued against the couple as they went into hiding after a case was filed against them.
“SI Shahed is no more a policeman now. He is now a criminal and wanted by police,” Nure Alam Mina, ASP of Chittagong told journalists of Pabna over phone.
