Sk Jamal reach semis in Nepal
Goalkeeper Aminul Haq thwarted three kicks to take Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club to the semifinals of Safal Pokhara Cup Football tournament with a 3-0 shootout win over RCT at the Pokhara Stadium in Nepal yesterday.
The game rolled into the tiebreaker after regulation 90 minutes failed to produce any result.
However, Sheikh Jamal should have finished the job earlier had Nigerian Femi Orunimi not squandered a spot kick three minutes before time.
But they did not have to rue that mistake as the Bangladesh League champions came on top in the shoot out. Kesta, Yoko Samnick and Abdul Baten Komol converted the first three kicks while former Bangladesh keeper Aminul Haque staged a superb performance thwarting first three attempts of the opponents, according to a message received here.
Sheikh Jamal will now face the winners between Sikkim United and Pokhara XI in the semis.
Despite fielding seven foreign players, Sheikh Jamal struggled to split the RCT backline, who adopted a defensive strategy throughout the game. However, Sheikh Jamal created a few good chances but RCT goalkeeper Dilip Chhetri thwarted all those attempts to keep them in the match before the shootout.
