Ten HC judges sworn in
The 10 newly appointed additional High Court judges were sworn in yesterday.
Chief Justice Md Mozammel Hossain administered the oath at Judges' Lounge of the Supreme Court.
Most of the judges from the Appellate and High Court Divisions were present at the ceremony that began around 10:50am.
President Zillur Rahman appointed the 10 on October 4 and 19, raising the number of HC judges to 98.
Among the new judges, SH Nurul Huda Jaigirdar, KM Kamrul Qader, Muhammad Khurshid Alam Sarker, Mojibur Rahman Mia, Mostofa Jaman Islam and Mohammad Ullah were appointed on October 4.
The president appointed AKM Shahidul Haque, Abu Taher Md Saifur Rahman, Shahidul Karim and Md Jahangir Hossain on October 19.
Attorney General Mahbubey Alam and ruling Awami League-backed lawyers accorded felicitation to the new judges after they took oath.
But a faction of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) dominated by pro-BNP lawyers refrained from giving felicitation to them.
SCBA president and BNP leader Khandaker Mahbub Hossain at a press briefing said they will not accord any felicitation to the new judges until the government makes a guideline for appointment of new judges.
Meanwhile, Dhaka Bar Association and Court Reporters' Association separately felicitated Justice Md Jahangir Hossain at the Bar auditorium yesterday.
