Bail petitions of 2 ex-IGPs rejected

A Dhaka court yesterday rejected bail petitions of two former inspectors general of police (IGPs) in a case filed for killing 24 people in the grenade attack on an Awami League rally in 2004.
The former police chiefs are Ashraful Huda and Shahudul Haque.
Judge Mohammad Zohurul Haque of Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court passed the order after their lawyers submitted separate petitions against the orders of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka.
Earlier, on July 4, the CMM court rejected bail petitions of the duo and sent them to jail after they surrendered before the court, a day after a Dhaka court issued arrest warrants against them and 16 others, including Tarique Rahman, senior vice-chairman of BNP.
They are also among the 30 mentioned in supplementary charge sheets of the cases submitted by the Criminal Investigation Department.
The attack left 24 leaders and workers dead and injured 300 others, including Sheikh Hasina, leader of AL and current prime minister.
