Appointment of more independent directors in State owned Enterprises (SoEs) and enhancement of their remuneration in both private and public organisations will bring more dynamism in practice of corporate governance in the country, experts opined this at a seminar yesterday.
They said this at the concluding session of the Corporate Governance Week-2008 at the Bangladesh Enterprise Institute (BEI) in Dhaka.
BEI organised the week-long corporate governance seminar from January 13 to 17 to make people aware of good corporate governance in public and private organisations.
BEI President Farooq Sobhan chaired the closing ceremony and distributed the prizes and certificates among the winners in essay writing competition on corporate governance.
Farooq Sobhan urged the government to make the board of directors of public financial institutions free of political influence.
"I think the present government will take initiatives for establishing a good corporate governance practice in the public sector banking system," he said.
