The High Court yesterday quashed all proceedings against Jamuna Group Chairman Nurul Islam Babul and his wife Salma Islam in a corruption case filed by the Anti-corruption Commission during the regime of military-backed caretaker government.
Endorsing two separate writ petitions filed by Babul and Salma, an HC bench of Justice Farid Ahmed and M Shawkat Hossain also declared all proceedings against them illegal.
The court came up with the verdict saying that the ACC notice asking their wealth statements was illegal, as the notice was served by its secretary, and the case was filed against them on the basis of illegal notice.
The ACC filed the case against Babul and his wife with Ramna Police Station on August 18, 2007, on charges of amassing wealth illegally and concealing information about it.
