Chief Justice Md Ruhul Amin warned that any irregularity and corruption wouldn't be tolerated anyway in the institution whose cardinal role is to establish justice.
“Stern action would be taken after investigation against anyone found involved in corruption,” he said while he was addressing the installation ceremony of the executive committee members of Chittagong District Bar Association.
He said responsibilities and duties of judges and lawyers have increased a lot after the separation of the judiciary from the executive.
“In the past, breaking laws by people of a strata of society and state had been dealt with a strong hand. But transgression of laws by the privileged people was taken with a lenient view,” he told the function.
The chief justice said lack of credibility had developed in public mind about the judicial system in the past due to discrimination in executing the laws.
“Judges and lawyers have to keep in mind that lack of confidence would again develop about judicial system if justice was delayed,” he said.
Supreme Court Deputy Registrar Farid Ahmed Shibly and Bar General Secretary Sheikh Iftekhar Saimun Chowdhury also spoke with Bar Association President M Abdul Quddus in the chair.
