The 5th National Games of the Special Olympics Bangladesh for intellectually-challenged athletes, organised by Gra-meenphone Ltd. in partnership with Special Olympics Bangladesh, was inaugurated at the Army Stadium in Dhaka yesterday.
Around 400 athletes selec-ted from 5 regional talent hunt programmes are participating in the event. Main events of the National Games are taking place at BKSP in Savar.
Selected athletes from the Games will be further groomed for representing Bangladesh in the 2011 Special Olympics International Games.
There will be a total of 6 disciplines -- aquatics, athletics, badminton, bocce, football, and table tennis in the event.
Chief of Army Staff, Gen-eral Md Abdul Mubeen, ndc, psc inaugurated the event. Arnfinn Groven, Chief Peoples Officer of Grameen-phone and Ashraf ud Dowla, Founder Chairman, Special Olympics Bangladesh were also present on the occasion.
