Maj Gen Abul Kalam Azad, director general of Directorate of Drug Administration, yesterday said journalists are not authorised to talk to him.
“As a journalist you are not authorised to talk to the Drug Administration DG,” said Abul Kalam Azad as this correspondent tried to get a comment from the drug administration boss over Wednesday's statement of DDA Assistant Director Abul Khair during the trial of a drug adulteration case against Adflame Pharmaceuticals.
“You can talk to Abul Khair, not me,” Abul Kalam Azad suggested during the conversation.
The correspondent tried to contact Khair over mobile phone. Khair, however, didn't receive the calls.
Briefed about the incident, Chief Information Commissioner Muhammad Zamir said, “All designated officers of every government authority are duty-bound to receive question and to respond, except for issues mentioned in Section 7 of the Right to information (RTI) act.
“If any government office is not doing so, they are not acting in accordance with the RTI act,” Zamir added.
