A grand rally, oath taking ceremony, discussion and cultural programme were held in Chapainawabagnj town on Tuesday. The event saw hundreds of students from different institutions speak out against eve teasing and take a vow to resist harassers.
The District Information Office had organised the programme, as part of its campaign to build up public opinion against eve teasing.
Speakers said in a discussion that a number of girls had recently committed suicide after becoming victims of constant harassment. They said that eve teasing has created anarchy in the society. A congenial atmosphere for learning should be created by stopping this social menace, they added.
They also are urged people to raise their voices against eve teasing.
K M Ali Azam, Deputy Commissioner (DC), Chapainawabganj was present as chief guest at the event. Additional Deputy Commissioner KM Massuduzzaman presided over the discussion.
Earlier, a rally started from the DC office. The rally paraded the main roads of the town and ended at Shahid Satu Hall. There several hundred students of different schools and madrassas of the town were sworn in to act against eve teasing. A cultural programme on the issue was held at Nayagola High School premises in town. Local artistes performed at the programme.
