Kushtia DC exempted from contempt charge

A day after the punishment of standing in the dock of a High Court bench for hours, the deputy commissioner (DC) of Kushtia was exempted from contempt of court charge against him by the bench.
The court exonerated DC Abdul Mannan after he submitted a petition offering unconditional apology for not complying with its order.
The bench of Justice AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik and Justice Sheikh Md Zakir Hossain directed the DC to execute its order within seven days.
The court had directed him (DC) to accept money from one Anwarul Haque Masum, a contractor, and give him lease of the lease of sand extraction from river Gorain in Kushtia.
Barrister M Amir-ul Islam and Advocate AHM Khalequzzaman appeared for the DC, while Deputy Attorney General Nazrul Islam Talukder stood for the government.
