Acclaimed director Tanvir Mokammel's latest work "Rabeya", set in the backdrop of Bangladesh's Liberation War, will make its international festival debut when it is screened at the Singapore Film Festival next month.
The film, starring Aly Zaker, Tauquir Ahmed, Banya Mirza and Chitralekha Guha, has been chosen for screening in the "Cinema Today" section of the festival to be held from April 15 to 26.
It will also be shown in Copenhagen on May 2 at an event organised by Bangla-desh-Danish Friendship Asso-ciation.
Mokammel told The Daily Star that he will not be able to make it to the Singapore festival as he will be in Britain and Denmark during those days. But someone from the unit will attend the festival and represent the film, he added.
Right now, the director is busy editing the rushes of his next documentary "1971" in India. He would return to Dhaka on March 21.
"Singapore festival will be the first international film festival where 'Rabeya' will be shown," he said.
Mokammel will be in Britain from April 15 to May 15 to have professional meetings regarding his next feature film "Jibondhuli", also set against the backdrop of the Liberation War. During the visit he would collect some archival footage for the documentary "1971".
"Then I will go to Denmark where 'Rabeya' will be shown in Copenahgen.
I will also have a meeting with the director of the Danish Film Institute," the director said.
