Local people at Palashpole in Satkhira town yesterday caught a leader of district Sramik Kalyan Federation, labour front of Jamaat-e-Islami, for alleged 'unsocial activities' with a widow.
At an arbitration, the Jamaat leader-- advocate Abdul Azizwas fined Tk 50,000 for the offence, locals and police said.
He gave a cheque for Tk 30,000 of Islami Bank and was released on a promise of payment of the rest later. Aziz is secretary of Satkhira district unit of the federation.
Local people said, they caught Aziz when he entered the house of the widow early in the morning.
They tied him with a tree in front of the house. Later, on request from some lawyers, an arbitration was arranged.
District Shramik Kalyan Federation has issued a show cause notice on Aziz for alleged involvement in unsocial activities, asking him to reply within three days. The notice was signed by its district unit president advocate Azizul Islam.
On contact, Azizul Islam said a three-member committee has also been formed to probe the allegation. “If found guilty, he would be expelled from the party”, Islam added.
Sadar thana officer-in-charge Abdul Kader Beg said he heard about the incident but none came to file any case against the Jamaat leader.
Action will be taken if any one files case against him”, the OC said.
