Police recovered the throat-slit body of a woman from her residence in Chaugachha upazila of Jashore this afternoon.

The deceased has been identified as Rikta Begum, 20, from Dhenkipota village.

According to police, the incident is believed to have stemmed from a family dispute. Rikta reportedly married Rokon Ali six months ago following an extramarital affair. This was Rokol Ali's second marriage.

Chaugachha Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Anwar Hossain said that while Rikta maintained a cordial relationship with Rokon's first wife, her stepson, Barkat, was unable to accept the marriage.

This afternoon, while Rokon Ali and his first wife were away from home, Barkat allegedly slit Rikta's throat. Neighbours reported seeing him flee the scene with bloodstained clothes. Upon entering the house, they discovered Rikta's body lying on the floor.

Police arrived shortly after being informed, recovered the body, and sent it to Jashore General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

OC Anwar Hossain added that Rokon Ali, his first wife, and Barkat have been absconding since the incident.

"Efforts are underway to arrest them," he added.
