The customs and ceremonies surrounding weddings seem to be never-ending, over-the-top, and zealous in Dhaka, especially Puran Dhaka.

Amidst the whirlwind of activities is one such ritual which is not much in practice nowadays: the 'borjatra' circling around Chawk Bazar!   

Bridegrooms in wedding processions used to parade around the area in all pomp and fervour, making one circle, two circles, or sometimes even seven circles. 

It was once a wedding-must. As Nazir Hossain wrote in the book Kingbodontir Dhaka, it was as if wedding customs were not complete until the groom gave his salutations while making rounds at the Chawk.
