In the city of Dhaka, one can find and be a part (with effort) of any niche club. Bangladesh Orchid Society (BOS) is one such club that hosts an annual event that showcases orchids of different varieties.

Flower enthusiasts can experience different breeds of orchids with colours one has not seen before. Members of the BOS gather around in this event to showcase their collections, and exchange or give their favourite orchids to fellow members in an attempt to fill their balconies and terraces.

This year, the two-day event will be held between 16 and 17 September (Friday and Saturday) from 10 am to 6 pm. This one-of-a-kind show has been held every year, with that being said this year's event will be the first one after the lockdowns. Beaming with great pride and joy, this event will be led by Naseem Iqbal, President, of the Bangladesh Orchid Society.

"We take care of orchids all year round. We nurture them and believe in the preservation of the flowers. We even hold a monthly meeting where enthusiasts can gather and share their knowledge of how to take care of their flowers and what makes them more vibrant. Bangladesh Orchid Society is a great way for like-minded enthusiasts to come together to share our love for orchids," said AMM Iqbal Ali, a member of BOS.

The BOS began in the late 80s and has loyal members both in the country and abroad. And harbouring the unrelenting motive to see orchids flourish in their true potential, the annual orchid event has been held and led on for years. There is always something new every year at the show. The variety of orchids here does not just come from nurseries, but also around the world brought by orchid lovers.

Enthusiasts radiate with excitement when they bring tens of hundreds of different species to exhibit, which they themselves planted, bred and nurtured. One might even get lucky by catching the sight of indigenous or hybrid varieties. In the event, you can see the vibrant colours or get enchanted by the fragrance or just mingle with the members.

The event will be held at Nasheman House CENC 2, Road 95, Gulshan 2.
