Students of Jagannath University demonstrated on the campus yesterday, demanding return of their dormitory that Awami League leader Haji Mohammad Selim has allegedly occupied.
Tibet Hall is currently occupied by Haji Selim, also an independent lawmaker, said Shariful Islam, president of JnU Bangladesh Chhatra League.
They demonstrated for about an hour till 1:30pm yesterday when the university was closed.
Haji Selim, however, refuted the allegations. "Ask them to show me papers proving that this is their hall," he charged.
Vice Chancellor Dr Mizanur Rahman said they were trying to reclaim the ownership.
Today, the students will submit petitions to three ministries--home, land and education--as part of their campaign to recover their dormitory.
"We will continue our struggle until we get the hall back," said Shariful Islam.
On Monday, Haji Selim told parliament that he heard "Islami Chhatra Shibir severs tendons, while BCL chops off heads and wrists".
The pro-AL student body later reacted bitterly to the remarks.
Selim won in the January 5 national election as a rebel candidate of the AL.
