Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) investigators have recommended suing Awami League lawmaker from Rajshahi-4 Enamul Haque for earning wealth worth around Tk 216 crore by illegal means.

ACC Deputy Director Jatan Kumar Roy, who led the investigation, has made the recommendation in the probe report submitted to the anti-graft watchdog this afternoon.

The investigation has found that Enamul has amassed around Tk 216 crore through illegal means.

The lawmaker concealed information of around Tk 213 crore in his wealth statement submitted to the Election Commission before the January 5 parliamentary election, the report added.

The investigation has found that he also amassed around Tk 2.88 crore beyond legal sources of income.

Earlier on September 8, the AL lawmaker from Rajshahi-4 was grilled by the ACC investigators at their Segunbagicha headquarters in Dhaka.

Emerging from the ACC headquarters, Enamul told reporters that he had no properties beyond his statements submitted to the EC before the January 5 parliamentary elections and then to ACC.

However, the commission in its probe found that Enamul has ownership of Ena Enterprise, a real estate company, which has seven sister concerns.

Later on that day, ACC Deputy Director Jatan Kumar Roy filed a general diary with Ramna police alleging that Enamul's tax lawyer Kanchan Das issued a death threat to him over cellphone.

The lawyer told the ACC officer, who was investigating alleged discrepancies in the lawmaker's wealth statement, “Mr MP wants your investigation report must not have any recommendation for suing him. If the report bears such recommendation, you will be vanished into air,” Jatan told reporters at the ACC's Dhaka headquarters.

Kanchan was not available over the phone for comments while Enamul said his lawyer could not do so.
