Mosquito menace sparks symbolic protest in Khulna

Khulna city is grappling with a severe mosquito swarm, prompting locals to stage a symbolic protest -- "Mosquito Net March" -- to demand urgent action from the authorities.
The demonstration, arranged by Khulna Nagorik Samaj, took place yesterday.
Carrying mosquito nets, residents participated in the march. They complained about increase in mosquito populations, particularly in areas such as Bastuhara, Daulatpur, Khalishpur, Shibbari, Gallamari, Bosupara, and Mujgunni.
Many blamed the Khulna City Corporation for failing to take adequate measures to control the situation.
Babul Hawlader, member secretary of Nagorik Samaj, and civil society leader Mahbubur Rahman Munna spoke at the event.
Mizanur Rahman, assistant director of Khulna Medical College Hospital, said a dengue outbreak might occur if action is not taken.
Md Abdul Aziz, chief waste management officer of KCC, said, "We are taking necessary measures to curb the mosquito problem. Fogging operations have been intensified, and we are spraying insecticides regularly."
