Police on Friday night recovered 20 bullets which were snatched from a cop by some Hefajat-e-Islam activists in Brahmanbaria's Nandanpur area on March 27.

Meanwhile, three more cases were filed in Narayanganj on Friday in connection with vandalism over the confinement of Hefajat Joint Secretary General Mamunul Haque to a resort in the district's Sonargaon on April 3.

Police recovered the bullets from a sweetmeat shop in Suhilpur Bazar of Brahmanbaria, said Md Imtiaz Ahammed, officer-in-charge at the Special Branch(SB) of police.

Law enforcers also arrested two people from Brahmanbaria's Suhilpur on Friday in connection with the recovery of the bullets. The arrestees -- Arab Ali, 40, of Dakshin Kendubari village, and Monir Mia, 42, of Suhilpur village in Sadar upazila, -- are fruit traders.

The two were shown arrested in a case filed with Brahmanbaria Sadar Model Police Station on March 30, the OC added.

According to the case statement, two members of Moulvibazar district police were travelling on a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on their way to a Brahmanbaria court with an accused of a case on March 27. A group of Hefajat men intercepted their way on Cumilla-Sylhet highway in Brahmanbaria's Nandanpur area.

Hefajat men beat up the two cops and snatched 20 bullets from one of them.

Later, victim policeman Md Mohiuddin filed the case with Brahmanbaria Sadar Model Police Station accusing unidentified people.

Contacted, Brahmanbaria Superintendent of Police Mohammad Anisur Rahman said, "We first detained a man based on intelligence. Later, the bullets were recovered and a second person was picked up after gleaning information from the detainee."

With the latest two arrestees, a total of 55 people have so far been picked up in connection with the cases filed over Hefajat mayhem in the district on March 26-28. A total of 49 cases have been filed with different police stations of the district over the arson and violence by the Islamist group, said police.

In Narayanganj, Hefajat leader Mamunul was made the prime accused in one of the three new cases filed with Sonargaon Police Station, said Mohammad Hafizur Rahman, OC of the police station.

Of the three cases, one was filed by Sonargaon upazila Jubo League Publicity Affairs Secretary Nasir Uddin against 111 named Hefajat and BNP men and 300 unnamed people over vandalising and torching the upazila Awami League office.

Another case was filed by the upazila Jubo League President Rafiqul Islam Nannu against 120 named Hefajat and BNP men and 50-60 unnamed people over vandalising Rafiqul's business establishment and house.

Shah Jamal Tota, father of former Narayanganj district Chhatra League vice president Sohag Rony, filed the third case against 20 named Hefajat and BNP men and 30-40 unnamed people over vandalising his house.

With the latest three, a total of six cases have so far been filed with Sonargaon Police Station over the April 3 incident. Mamunul was accused in three of those.

On April 3 evening, ruling AL men kept Mamunul confined to the resort alleging that he went to a room of the resort with a woman with whom he was having an affair.

Hours later, a large number of Hefajat men blocked Dhaka-Chattogram highway, staged demonstrations, vandalised some vehicles, and got Mamunul "rescued from confinement".
