Fire at power plant causes electricity outage in Sylhet, ‘restoration uncertain’

Power connection remains cut off in Sylhet due to a fire that broke out at a power plant this morning and it is uncertain when it can be restored.
Sylhet Fire Service and Civil Defence have brought the blaze under control, said Sylhet's Deputy Commissioner M Kazi Emdadul Islam while visiting the spot in the afternoon.
"The whole district is out of power and we are uncertain when we can restore it," the DC said adding that people were being alerted.
A probe body will also be formed to investigate the cause of the fire, he said.
Fire broke out at Kumargaon Power Plant in Sylhet Sadar upazila around 11:00am, said Khandker Mokammel Hossain, chief engineer of the Power Development Board (PDB) in Sylhet.
There has been no electricity in the city since then till the time of filing of the reports around 3:30pm, our local correspondent reports.
Several units of fire fighters worked to control the blaze.
